Root Chakra – I will Survive!

Pandemic! Just that word alone is enough to throw anyone into a panic! As of this writing, the entire world has shifted into survival mode. This is the perfect time to learn about your survival chakra and steps you can take to access the information contained in this chakra, as well as learning ways to calm this survival chakra down.

We, as humans are built to survive! Survival is coded into your DNA. Even your physical body can endure illnesses by shifting and adjusting to compensate for illness and injuries. As a retired ICU nurse, there were many times I witnessed first hand an individual’s ability to survive when faced with the most extreme traumas. Often you would hear the staff pondering over how an individual is surviving when the deck seems stacked against them. So when faced with the Coronavirus pandemic, your body and spirit will work on your behalf to the best of its ability to heal you.

So lets talk about this root chakra. It is an energy center, located in the pelvic region. The root chakra spins a brilliant red, is associated with a sound, feeds fresh healthy energy to the bones, muscles, connective tissue, and skin. It is also connected to the adrenal glands, and cortisol levels. The adrenals kick into high gear in times of stress. Cortisol is like a steroid that can provide you an extra boost, extra kick to push through your day. Cortisol floods the system, when you need to run out of a burning building, or to provide enormous strength to lift the car off of someone who is pinned underneath. We have heard of many heroic feats of strength in emergent situations where you have crystal clear clarity and just know what to do. This happens when the root chakra signals danger and sends messages that your survival is threatened and you need to take some sort of action immediately.

However, if the shop does not have your favorite icecream or chewing gum, this is not a good enough reason to go into survival mode. Yet, many people can have anxiety when they can not get the treats they need, or their appointments get canceled, or can not find their favorite shoes to wear with their favorite outfit. The root chakra, survival chakra can get triggered and your system can flood with cortisol, resulting in anxiety.

Spiritually, your root chakra is a dynamic library filled with a tremendous amount of information as a resource to survive. Where does this information come from? The information can come from past lives, lived before, where you had to survive through illness, death, genocide, cultural collapse, trauma, murder, or starvation. In Epigenetics, it is about how your ancestors survived through similar issues mentioned above and through their choices that led to survival, you were able to born and their survival coding in your DNA also provides details on how to survive.

Our Ancient Ancestors did not always know if they would have enough food, shelter or safety from their environment. Your ancient ancestors did not have pre warning when a tornado, hurricane or earthquake caused tsunami was about to naturally destroy entire villages. Your ancestors learned to read nature around them and listen to how the animals were behaving to know of upcoming catastrophic events. That knowledge is stored in your root chakra.

Your spirit draws upon all of that information in your root chakra, your survival chakra to provide you with all the knowledge needed to make the best life giving, life saving decisions. Your spirit accesses this information in your root chakra on a constant basis and for most, this process is unconscious to you. To bring this information to a conscious level it does require meditation, by sitting quiet, grounding yourself, turning your attention towards your internal environment and then asking your spirit to help illuminate steps to take to optimize your survival. With our current outbreak of the Corona virus, going inside, talking to your spirit and having access to all that great knowledge from when you or your ancestors have survived a disease outbreak in the past, will serve you now. To do this, you must sit quiet and listen. There is no other way.

Many in the world right now are doing what I call, “Fear Shaming”. Making fun of others who are experiencing a tremendous amount of fear. “Just get over it” or “just calm down” does not work, when the root chakra is highly activating the adrenals and cortisol surges. It is not possible to just calm down when your body at a subconscious level is saying, “I’m going to die, I’m going to die, I’m going to die, We are all going to die!” The root chakra flies open in response to save the day by pulling out all information needed to stop imminent death.

Lets take for example, a combat soldier, who did many tours of duty at war, with guns and bombs going off on a daily basis. Yes, they need that root chakra open at all times so that minute to minute information is provided to keep them alive. Now fast forward, and you as a combat soldier is home with your family. A car backfires, a firework explodes, or someone starts yelling, and this same combat soldiers survival chakra now flies open because the body thinks it is now back in the combat zone and life is in extreme danger. The adrenals kick on, cortisol floods the system and everything is telling them to literally run for their life. Yet, all they really wanted to do is watch a movie and eat popcorn with their family. Telling that same combat Soldier to just get over it, or just calm down is NOT GOING TO WORK! They must calm their root chakra by turn it down and slowly over time, through meditation, dismantle the root chakras triggered responses.

This pandemic is creating life and death fears for everyone around the globe. The root chakra is flying open in response, and the flood gates open and just mind over matter is not that easy. So making fun of someone who you might think is overreacting does not help the situation. Teaching that same person how to ground, or share with them a grounding meditation, reminding those triggered memories of the current age and date will help them to come fully into this present moment to calm the root.

Symptoms of an over expanded root chakra are pretty classic. If you are someone who can not feel fear, your body will express itself in other ways. Hip pain is one of the most common. The root chakra is located in the pelvis. When the root chakra expands wider and wider it puts tension on this hips and for some it can feel like their hips are going to dislocate. For others it can simply feel like tension in the hips. Also aching legs, knees, and feet can all be signals that your root chakra is out of sorts. Another symptom can be skin rashes. Another very classic symptom that there is a problem in your root chakra. Hives, psoriasis, acne, bruises, and itchy skin are all indicators of an imbalance in the root chakra. It can cause you to feel highly agitated, like the saying, a cat on a hot tin roof! Clearing the root chakra out, closing it down, most times can eliminate this rash response.

Fear, anxiety, panic, irritation, annoyance, short tempered, and inability to focus can all be symptoms of a root chakra issue. Who has time for small talk when your body is telling you to run for your life? When the root chakra is over inflated, the upper chakras close down to divert all of your energy to your root/survival chakra. Causing panic, even when you are simply washing the dishes.

This is why after two decades of studying the human energy field, I will often say the root chakra is the true spiritual chakra. I say this because, if you root chakra is overactive, all the meditation in the world will not work to connect you with your spirit if you can not get that energy center calmed down and grounded.

The world is saturated in fear right now. Even if you feel calm inside, your aura can experience the battering of everyone’s fear around you. It is natural to want everyone to stop being afraid so you can feel better. I wish it was just that easy. People are struggling, big time! So what can we do about it?

First, check in with yourself. Ask yourself how open is your root chakra open right now on a scale from 0 to 100%. What is your stress level from 0-10? How much do your hips hurt on a scale from 0-10? Make a mental note of those numbers.

Now ground yourself to the center of the earth and imagine your root chakra is a dial. Intend to close down your root chakra to at least 40% or less. You see, if your root chakra is open greater than 40% it is near impossible to ground because your body is being signaled to run. Closing it down to 40% or less, shifts the energy from running to grounding. This is one of the biggest misconceptions in spiritual work. Many believe the more open the root chakra is the more grounded you will be. In fact it is the exact opposite. Root open signals run, root closed down signals no danger so you can calm. Once your are grounded then begin to release, stress, anxiety, annoyance, or fear right down your grounding. Then recheck in with those numbers and see if they have come down. If not, you may need to sit longer, grounding and releasing stress down the grounding.

Another point that I will mention here about overreacting. What if the body is responding to a real emergency? What if our body and our spirit is trying to tell us to take this threat very seriously? What if our spirit is trying to tell us to put safety measures in place to optimize our survival. Then just telling yourself you are being ridiculous negates the purpose of the information coming in from spirit to support our communities ability to survive this virus.

It is time to listen to and support our body so that it feels safe, as well as listen to the wisdom of all that ancient knowledge we have stored in the root to help us know how to survive this. We are entering a new phase on our planet that we have not experienced in our lifetime. We will survive, we are built to survive and listening to our own spirit is now more important than ever, in this great time of change on our planet.
